Young Boy Dancing Group
FR 02 AUG 2024
Initiated in 2014, Young Boy Dancing Group has evolved from an unnamed, ever-changing collective to its current form. Initially a mercurial performance collective with no initial name, the group adopted the title Young Boy Dancing Group in 2015.
Their engagement with dance production, institutionalization, non-sexual intimacy, and vulnerability informs performances that blend actionistic improvisations with structured dance presentations. These span videos, fashion, sculptures, and live performances influenced by post-apocalyptic themes, acrobatics, trance, contemporary rituals, and DIY aesthetics, reflecting a queer identity by nature.
As Spike Magazine wrote: "Since making their debut as a performance group at Paris’s Club Silencio in 2014, eccentric tactics earning early viral fame have matured into immersive studies in physical intensity, sensuality, and extreme absurdity."
Past performances have been held at numerous prestigious venues, including Mendes Wood DM in Sao Paulo, O’Flaherty’s in New York City, Nikolaj Kunsthal in Copenhagen, Icelandic Art Center, Art Hub Copenhagen, Perrformat in Zürich, Disappearing Berlin at Schinkel Pavilion Berlin, BOFFO in NYC, OCD China Town in NYC, Ceremonia in Mexico, Nave in Chile, UV Estudios in Buenos Aires, Baltic Triennial in Tallinn, Athens Biennale, Creepy Teepee in Kutna Hora, Kammer Spiele München, Kunstraum London, Yvonne Lambert in Berlin, Roskilde Music Festival, and the Lithuanian Pavilion at the Venice Biennale.
